[Industry News Reporter Lee Kun-oh] SKSE, a leading building-integrated solar (BIPV) company in Korea, has successfully entered global markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia based on its technology and design know-how.

In particular, SKSE, which has both domestic manufacturing base, design support capabilities, and international certification capabilities, is operating an export and installation platform in the Asian market through partnership with global company AGC and is attracting attention as a key company leading the industrialization of BIPV exports in the future.

In particular, the Hong Kong demonstration project and export cases to two Southeast Asian countries, which were promoted as part of the "Industrial Technology International Cooperation (R&D)-International Joint Technology Development Project" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Promotion), are considered best examples of the possibility of overseas expansion of domestic BIPV technology.

① Hong Kong: Joint demonstration launched with HKUST... "Living Lab" came true

In April, SKSE, together with AGC, launched a project to provide and demonstrate the BIPV module system to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) by donating in kind. This will be carried out as part of the Ministry of Industry's R&D-International Joint Technology Development Project and will be a major example of Hong Kong's color BIPV renovation.

The installation will apply BIPV to the outer wall of the HKUST Tower D faculty and staff accommodation in the second half of 2025. After installation, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide by about 30 tons per year and operates as a core facility of HKUST's sustainable campus strategy, Living Lab.

Professor Xiang Changying, head of the project and director of the HKUST Zero Carbon Architecture and Future Cities, emphasized the research importance of the donation.

"This agreement enables BIPV renovation at HKUST," he said. "This is a key step in advancing sustainable construction technology."

"With BIPV innovation, we transform buildings into smart, energy-producing units, directly supporting Hong Kong's 2050 carbon neutrality goals and sustainable smart city vision," it added.

"We are demonstrating carbon-neutral technology by using the HKUST campus as a living lab," said Professor Kar Yan TAM, vice president of administration and management at HKUST. "Cooperation with SKSE and AGC is an important milestone for this strategy."

② Singapore: Global Pharmaceutical Company SANOFI Installs SKSE BIPV Module in Canopy Form

In 2024, SKSE partnered with AGC to supply BIPV modules to SANOFI's vaccine research center in Singapore's Tuas region, and it was installed in the form of a canopy. The 60.7 kW total solar system is drawing attention as a commercial achievement for Net-Zero construction in Singapore.

③ Indonesia: BIPV Module Supply in Triangular Shape to Central Bank BI

In December last year, SKSE's GTG BIPV module was supplied to the headquarters building of Indonesia's Bank Indonesia. The module is designed to fit a special exterior structure in the shape of a triangle, and is also manufactured by SKSE and led the sales and installation by AGC.

The BI building is a symbolic public building with a large glass curtain wall structure, and this installation is evaluated as the starting point for expanding BIPV-based green construction in Indonesia.

Targeting Asian BIPV Market... Expanding Overseas to AGC Network

With this demonstration and export, SKSE will enter the core Asian market in earnest.

Partner AGC has glass production bases in many Asian countries and has secured a number of demand sources for BIPV application through sales pipelines with global architects and construction companies.

Based on this distribution network of AGC, SKSE is planning to expand the Southeast Asian market in Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan in the future. In addition, it is proactively preparing for product certification based on international standards such as IEC and UL, and is also strengthening the responsiveness of each country's institutions.

SKSE aims to be an export-type BIPV full-cycle technology partner, not just a manufacturer. The company integrates and provides △ design support △ product customization △ product manufacturing and quality management △ field technical advice △ certification response, and has more than 500 BIPV deliveries in Korea, including public buildings, schools, and medical facilities.

"We are the only BIPV company that can simultaneously demonstrate and export abroad while maintaining its domestic manufacturing base," SKSE CEO Cho Geun-young said. "We will continue to lead the global BIPV market beyond Asia by improving technology and project execution based on cooperation with global partners."
